Barcelona President Josep Bartomue and his predecessor Sandro Rosell, have been indicted by a Spanish Judge for tax fraud and fraudulent administration, for their involvement in the signing of Brazilian Superstar Neymar.
Pablo Ruz, the investigative magistrate in the probe, decided that there was enough evidence to launch a trial against Josep Bartomue and Sandro Rosell today.Pablo Ruz believes that Barcelona failed to disclose the real cost of signing Neymar. His investigation suggests that the club has created a fictitious maze of contracts to hide the real figures.
The controversy, stems from the actual tax fee that Barcelona owes the Spanish government for the signing. Barcelona paid the Spanish government the sum of 11.2 million pounds and reported that the transfer fee for Neymar was 57 million Euros. The investigation conducted by Pablo Ruz however, suggests that the transfer was worth at least 83.3 million Euros and that the club owes the Spanish government at least an additional 9 million Euros. Sandro Rosell resigned in 2014 after being named as a suspect for his role in the transfer deal.
Sandro Rosell and Neymar
This trial does not do the clubs image any good. Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, is also involved in a tax evasion trial of his own.
