The Signal Iduna Park Stadium, home to Burossia Dortmond, has been declared off limits and was hastily evacuated today after a World War 2 bomb was found near the stadium this morning.
The 250 kg bomb is reported to be of British origin. Its discovery was made just hours before Jurgen Klopp was due to give a press conference ahead of a derby game against Shalke on Saturday..
Reports from Germany, confirm that the bomb has now been diffused, and is currently on its way to a disassembly plant where it will be destroyed.
The discovery of unexploded bombs is a relatively common occurrence in Germany, where millions of bombs were dropped between 1939-1945 by Allied and Soviet forces. In Berlin alone, authorities believe that 3000 unexploded bombs are yet to be discovered.
Below a sketch of the bomb in proximity to the stadium.
