Ex UFC fighter Kenny Florian, believes that interest in boxing will
die after Mayweather and Pacquiao fight on May 2nd. He is quoted as
saying 'boxing's days are numbered ... and the number is 64 ... cause
that's how many days are left until the Mayweather,Pacquiao fight, it is the sport's last hurrah.
Interestingly enough I was thinking the same thing. This fight seems
like it could be boxing's last true 'Super Fight'. I however have my
doubts on those thoughts. The reason for this is simple. Boxing is as
old as human civilization. It's history can be traced as far back as to
the 3rd Millennium BC. It was practiced by the Sumerians of modern day
Iraq. It's practice evolved and was also popular in the ancient Roman Empire. That is historically. In modern times, boxing continues to break its record for revenue generation. The Mayweather V
Pacquiao fight is expected to net a sum estimated at $300 Million dollars. Its
therefore currently one of the worlds most profitable sports. That means
people will continue to be interested in becoming fighters. Which in
turn means boxing will continue to produce great fighters. I therefore
doubt it will go anywhere.
