Fernando Alonso lost 20 years of memory after Barcelona car crash

Formula One driver Fernando Alonso was reported to have woken up mentally in 1995, after crashing his vehicle during a pre-season test in Barcelona.
According to a report in the Spanish daily El Pais, he woke up saying to his doctor ' I am Fernando, I drive go-carts and want to be a Formula One driver'. He is said to have woken up having no recollection of the near fatal accident in Barcelona.
Fernando Alonso has since recovered from the accident physically as well as mentally. He is currently nursing the ambition to race in the Malaysian Grand Prix later this month and has recommenced physical training.
Doctors had initially warned against a quick return to competitive racing, citing fears of 'second impact syndrome'. Second impact syndrome can occur when the effects of the first are still subsisting, and can cause severe brain damage or even death. However, in a statement released by Mclaren 'Fernando's doctors acknowledge he feels fit and well, and he regards himself as ready to race.'
Whether or not he will be given the go ahead to race will become known in the days to come.
